The green is cool, I thought at first it was exactly the same choice I would have made as the green was in the original cover. But I like the yellow with the authors name in black. Not sure what you did to the dragon but it pops now.
it pops because red and green are complimentary colors, being opposite on the color wheel the two colors clash (some times in a good way) so that's the focal point. by using yellow the text is no longer the focal point no longer detracts attention from the logo
kudos for taking your most well received work, and elevating it to a new level.
yes the yellow is an improvement, but I would also like to emphasize why the initial redesign was so well received.
by using an actual dragoon tattoo, and not a picture of girl with a dragon tattoo you reduced the complexity of image yet were able to convey the essence more powerfully
people see shape before detail and color.
the dragon tattoo's shape has curves which is usually associated with the female gender
the detail is that it is clearly a dragon tattoo (a common type of tattoo known as flash, perfect for instantaneously seeing it first as a tattoo then a dragon (which is reinforced in title.
using solid black allowed the rest of the vibrant colors were balanced
finally the yellow type made the logo pop, as the clash of red and green are no longer focal point and all images and text integrate

DeleteYellow type reads better.
ReplyDeleteYes, I also really like the font color in yellow. The yellow/red tones are much more appealing.
